Palazzo Massaini

Palazzo Massaini

Palazzo Massaini stands on a gentle slope dominating the Pienza area and tells the story of centuries of history between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The building we see today dates back to the 16th century, when the Massaini family was responsible for its reconstruction, replacing the ancient Bibbiano Cacciaconti Castle, which once belonged to the Cacciaconti family, lords of Montisi. The palace has thus become a symbol of the continuity between medieval tradition and Renaissance refinement.

Things to see

As you enter the inner courtyard, you find yourself surrounded by interconnected buildings, with the central tower rising above the other constructions, giving the complex a majestic and imposing appearance. Moving towards the northeast, the monumental garden invites you to stroll among the orderly flowerbeds and geometric paths. Along the access road you will come across the evocative chapel of San Regolo and the rectory, silent witnesses to centuries of history and devotion.

Interesting Facts

In addition to the Massaini family, the renowned Piccolomini family also had ties to the palace, as they owned other prestigious properties in Pienza. Today, the headquarters of Bottega Verde, a well-known Italian cosmetics company is located in the complex, as well as an agricultural estate that keeps the area’s productive vocation alive. When strolling around the courtyard and garden, you can still sense the charm of bygone eras, mixed with the vitality of modern activities.
